WHAT IS THE JUNIOR PHENOM CAMP?

The Idaho Junior Phenom Camp was initially created from the National adidas Junior Phenom camp. That camp was created to give younger players an opportunity to get ahead in the recruiting game. Introduced in San Diego, California in 2004, the national directors decided they needed a better way to find talent nationwide as opposed to relying on their own sources. At that point, the regional camps were born.

This is the fourth year that Idaho will host an exposure based regional camp of this magnitude. Not only do the kids get a chance to compete against the best players in the northwest, it is an early opportunity to meet the entire coaching staff of the Idaho Select Basketball Program.

If you are interested in details about previous year's camp, and to get an idea of what grassroots hoops are about, check out this article about the first camp we hosted, written by the Idaho Press-Tribune.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

Players in the graduating classes of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (5th-8th grade) will participate in the Junior Phenom camps in each state or region. These regional camps are the only way to qualify for the National adidas Junior Phenom Camp, THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. The best players at the regional level will then be invited to the National adidas Junior Phenom camp and the Phenom 150 Camp in San Diego next June and August. These players will be evaluated by ranking services such as HoopScoop. If you qualify, you are not required to attend the national camp.

Among the Idaho qualifiers, Jared Stutzman of Iona (near Idaho Falls) qualified for the national camp and was rated #22 in 2008 and #40 in 2009 in his class by the HoopScoop ranking service. CLICK HERE to see the entire list.

Even players that do not qualify will get a ton out of the Idaho Junior Phenom camp. Last year, in addition to the basketball that was taught, the camp also included sessions on physical training, education and recruiting. And with the high level of competition at each camp, the Idaho Junior Phenom camp is a must attend for players that want to get better.

I AM ONLY IN THE 4TH GRADE. WHAT ABOUT ME?

Players in the 4th grade are too young to attend the Junior Phenom Camps but there are still some options available. The directors of this Phenom Camp are also hosting The Next Level Skills Camp during Spring Break. Visit www.idahoselect.org for more information.

I AM IN THE 9TH GRADE. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR ME?

If you are a 9th grader, you are eligible to participate in the Next Level Skills Camp, The Crossover and tryout for the Idaho Select traveling team. Click on a link for more details.
